Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a major honors show approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
